Don’t lose out the transition from search engine traffic to generative AI traffic.  Show up in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, as well as in LLM’s like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini.

While the foundations are similar to SEO, apply the additional steps below for complete GEO-readiness.

1. Content AI Actually Quotes

  • Write like a smart human, not keyword soup. H2/H3s as full questions: “What are the best vegan proteins for endurance athletes?”

  • Show real-world proof. Drop case studies, stats, first-hand stories to hit E-E-A-T.

  • Go semantically wide. Use related entities and NLP phrases (Surfer, Clearscope, etc.) instead of repeating the same KW.

  • Chunk it up. Bullet lists, numbered steps, FAQs, comparison tables—these get lifted verbatim by LLMs.

2. Technical Access Pass

  • Crawlability first. In robots.txt, allow GPTBot, Googlebot, Bingbot.

  • Text over JS. Key info lives in raw HTML; provide transcripts + descriptive alt text.

  • Fast, flat architecture. Core pages ≤ 3 clicks from home, with descriptive internal links.

  • Submit to Bing Webmaster Tools. ChatGPT piggybacks on Bing’s index—don’t sleep on it.

3. Schema That Sells

  • Organization schema on every page (name, logo, socials).

  • Article / BlogPosting schema with author, date, headline.

  • Match Google’s Rich Result docs; no secret “AI tag”—just airtight structured data.

4. Authority & Trust Signals

  • Expert bios + citations. Make the author look legit.

  • Backlinks and mentions. Pitch round-ups, “best-of” lists, industry pubs.

  • Topical dominance. Cover the subject from every angle (topical maps help). Multiple URLs on one domain can win multiple source slots in AI answers.

5. Measurement That Matters

  • Brand-mention tracking. Click-throughs are scarce; monitor how often LLMs cite you.

  • Surfer’s AI Tracker (or equivalent) logs daily mentions across models—baseline before changes.
